Youth and Children’s Sunday

Celestial Infernos playing for the service.

The last Sunday in June was the occasion for the congregation to celebrate the annual Children’s Sunday. This year, the youth of the parish wearing their St. Cyprian’s Centennial T-Shirts led the Sunday service by providing the music via the steel band, The Celestial Infernos, under the direction of Mr. Justin Petty; two teens served as lectors for the Old Testament and New Testament readings; and,  an address was given by MsJ. Hoyte. After the service there was a parish barbecue set up in the church lot. Food and fellowship were both abundantly shared! For additional pictures of the day, click here.

Recollections of life at St. Cyprian’s throughout the years.

As part of St. Cyprian’s Centennial celebration, several members of the congregation have been invited to share with the parish their experiences of being part of St. Cyprian’s community. The reminiscences shared by the speakers can be heard again on the video page of our website. The first speaker was Charles Ramsey who spoke at the end of May. Most recently on June 10th, Margaret Lowell shared her memories of growing up and living in the parish. There will be two more reminiscence presentations later on in the year.

Sundays in June

June is the month of many parish observances: Women’s Sunday, Men’s Day, and Youth Sunday. For each of these observances, the groups contribute something special to the Sunday service. June 2, 2013 marked Women’s Sunday. Ladies of the church sat together at the Eucharist. As part of the observance, the ladies of the church invited in cooperation with the rector, the Rev. Shevelle Johnson to give the Sunday homily. Towards the close of the service, awards were presented to several ladies of the parish for their contributions to the community throughout the year.

Mothers’ Day 2013

April 27th, 2013 | Posted by admin in Uncategorized - (Comments Off on Mothers’ Day 2013)

In his Easter letter to the Diocese of Massachusetts this year, Bishop Thomas Shaw SSJE invited the parishes of the diocese to join him in the 17th Annual Mother’s Day March for Peace to witness to the need for healing in our community and the need for all to work to reduce violence in our cities. This march will take place on Sunday, May 12, 2013 starting from Town Field Park, Fields Corner, Dorchester at 8:30 am.

Since this event coincides with St. Cyprian’s annual Mothers’ Day celebrations, we will forego our custom of serving Mother’s Day luncheon and will, instead, honor our mothers by taking part in the march.

At the conclusion of the march, our bishops and our fellow Episcopalians will celebrate the Eucharist at the march’s end point. Since our rector will be a participant in the march and Eucharist, there will be a said Eucharist at St. Cyprian’s instead of the sung service.

We hope you can join us in this shared witness honoring our mothers and working for peace in our communities.

St. Cyprian’s Centennial Celebration Begins!

January 25th, 2013 | Posted by admin in Uncategorized - (Comments Off on St. Cyprian’s Centennial Celebration Begins!)

On Epiphany Day, January 6, 2013, St. Cyprian’s community began the celebration of its centennial. One hundred years ago, the community affiliated formally with the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts. The roots of the parish grew from a prayer group of newly arrived immigrants from the West Indies who met for prayer and worship in members’ parlors. Gradually, and with God’s grace, the community developed into a thriving congregation.

During 2013, we will be celebrating the centennial with a number of events. The high points of the year will be in September.

  • On September 15, 2013 at 4:00 pm, a solemn Eucharist of thanksgiving will be celebrated with the Rt. Rev. M. Thomas Shaw, SSJE, as principal celebrant,
  • On Friday, September 20, 2013, a joyous banquet will be held at Lombardo’s in Randolph. Cocktails are at 6:00 p.m. followed by dinner at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for the banquet will be $100.00. Those attending the banquet will receive a complimentary copy of the centennial booklet.

Please check this website for further information throughout the year.
