Live entertainment, food, music, food, vendors, did we mention food? Location: the church hall; on-site parking available. Entry is free. Food and goods are available for purchase.

Recently, Women’s Day was celebrated at St. Cyprian’s. This annual event celebrates the many ministries of the ladies of the parish. The guest speaker at the morning Eucharist was Evangelist Lilly Fountain. After the service, there was a wonderful reception in the Edrick Bain Church Hall. Pictures from the event can be seen here.

The annual Men’s Fellowship’s Social Sip held on the Sunday after Easter was a great success! The proceeds from this annual event support the Fellowship’s scholarship program for graduating high school seniors going on to higher education. Here are a few photos of the event. Enjoy!

St. Cyprian’s Choir under the direction of Dr. Keith Morris will be presenting a Good Friday Sacred Concert, Friday, April 18, 2014 at 8:00 pm. This is a long time tradition of the choir and we hope you can join us. Here is the link to the full information.

On April 5, 2014, a specially called diocesan convention will vote to elect a Bishop Coadjutor for the Diocese of Massachusetts. The Coadjutor will succeed Bishop M. Thomas Shaw, SSJE as Bishop Diocesan when Bishop Shaw retires. There are seven candidates for bishop. Recently, they have travelled across the diocese to speak with the members of our diocese. If you were not able to attend one of the sessions, a video introduction was made by the diocese–here is the link.. Ash Wednesday, the day marking the beginning of forty days of reflection, penance, and prayer, occurs on March 5, 2014. St. Cyprian’s will mark the start of the Lenten season with a 7:00 AM said Eucharist and imposition of ashes. Throughout Lent, there will be a morning said Eucharist at 7:00 AM with a meditation every Wednesday. The service will be approximately half an hour in length so that people are able to arrive at their place of work on time.

Ash Wednesday, also, is by ancient tradition, a day of fasting and abstinence. These actions are intended to focus one’s mind and soul on the Christian life and the preparation for Easter. Fasting is understood to mean one main meal during the day and abstinence is understood to mean foregoing rich food which habitually means no meat during the day. 

United Lenten Devotions – 2014: St. Cyprian’s will be taking part once again in the ecumenical observance of Lent with our neighboring faith communities. On Wednesday evenings beginning on March 12, 2014, a simple dinner will be shared by participants at 6:00 pm followed by a liturgy at 7:00 pm. The services will be held throughout the neighborhood hosted by various churches. A full schedule can be found here.

Holy Week: In addition to the services noted above, St. Cyprian’s will be observing Holy Week with our sister congregation St. Augustine St. Martin. Please see the schedule for Holy Week and Easter here.

The Massachusetts Chapter of the Union of Black Episcopalians will hold its annual Absalom Jones Day celebration Eucharist on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014 at 4:00 pm at St. Cyprian’s <1073 Tremont Street, Roxbury>. The Rev. Darryl James of Grace Church in Jamaica, NY is the featured speaker.

The Annual Frederick Douglass Isaacs Outstanding Lay Leadership Awards will be presented to Black Episcopalians nominated by their home parishes in recognition of their ministries.

The keynote speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Charles R. Stith, former US Ambassador to the Republic of Tanzania during the Clinton administration.
