Lent 2020

Wednesday, February 26, 2020 marks the beginning of the Lenten Season. We at St. Cyprian’s will mark the beginning of the season with a morning Eucharist at 7:00 am along with the imposition of ashes. Please join us for the beginning of Lent. We will carry on our custom of gathering on Wednesday mornings at 7:00 am during Lent for a said Eucharist and homily lasting for approximately 30 to 40 minutes.

We continue our Lenten tradition of worshipping with our neighbor congregations traveling to a different church during the course of Lent. The schedule for these observances can be found here. There will be a simple dinner at 6:00 pm and the service begins at 7:00 pm. Please do join us.

The Rev. Absalom Jones Celebration

St. Cyprian’s will be hosting the annual Rev. Absalom Jones Celebration this coming Sunday, February 9, 2020 at 4:00 pm. The Rt. Rev. Gayle Harris, Bishop Suffragan, the Diocese of Massachusetts will be the principal celebrant with our Rector, the Very Rev. Dr. Monrelle Williams, Concelebrant. The preacher for this service will be the Rev. Canon Dr. Sandye Wilson. This annual event is underwritten by the United Black Episcopalians, Massachusetts Chapter. Please join us.

St. Cyprian’s Sunday School and Steel Band Christmas Concert

The congregation of St. Cyprian’s will celebrate Our Lord’s Nativity on December 25, 2019 at a 9:30 am Eucharist. We will welcome in the New Year with a Eucharistic service at 8:30 pm on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2019. Please make every effort to join us for these joyful festivals!

The 50th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Breakfast

On January 20, 2020, our community will celebrate the life and ministry of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This annual breakfast celebration founded by Union United Methodist Church and St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church is the longest running event honoring Dr. King in the United States. The keynote speaker at the fiftieth will be the Most Rev. Michael B. Curry, Presiding Bishop and Primate of the Episcopal Church. There will also be contributions by Mayor Walsh, Governor Baker, Senators Markey and Warren as well as music, prayer and award presentations. Solemn Evensong ~ Roxbury-Dorchester Mission Hub CANCELLED!

Due to the pending storm, today’s Solemn Evensong has been cancelled. 

St. Cyprian’s will host a service of Solemn Evensong on Sunday, December 1, 2019 at 4:00 pm.  The principal celebrant of the service of prayer and song will be the Rt. Rev. Dr. Carol J. Gallagher, Regional Canon for the Central Region. Please join for this time of prayer, music and reflection at the beginning of the Advent season.

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Lesley Ramsay, a long time member of St. Cyprian’s parish family. We will celebrate her life on Thursday, October 31, 2019 at St. Cyprian’s, 1073 Tremont St., Roxbury, MA 02120. There will be a viewing at 10:00 am and a service at 11:00 am. May her soul rest in God’s eternal love and peace.

Notice! Change of Plans — The Annual Franklin Park Walk — Change of Date

The Annual Franklin Park Walk in support of the Building Fund has been moved to different date. The Walk had been scheduled for September 7, 2019 beginning at 7:00 am. Due to the expected storms coming into the area the weekend of the 7th, the event is being moved to Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Franklin Park. Please spread the word and let’s see you on the 21st!

Return to Regular Schedule

Our Sunday service returns to its usual time of 10:30 am. September 8, 2019 marks the return to the 10:30 hour. Likewise, live transmission of the service will begin on the 8th as well. Sunday School will start again on September 22, 2019 at 10:30. All children are invited and encouraged to attend. Sunday School meets in the John Lynch Library.  Bible Study will start up again on September 13, 2019 at 6:30 pm in the John Lynch Library. The Chancel Choir recommences practice on Thursday evenings at 7:30 pm. And remember: we celebrate the feast of our patron saint–St. Cyprian–on Sunday, September 15th!
