Ash Wednesday, the day marking the beginning of forty days of reflection, penance, and prayer, occurs on March 5, 2014. St. Cyprian’s will mark the start of the Lenten season with a 7:00 AM said Eucharist and imposition of ashes. Throughout Lent, there will be a morning said Eucharist at 7:00 AM with a meditation every Wednesday. The service will be approximately half an hour in length so that people are able to arrive at their place of work on time.

Ash Wednesday, also, is by ancient tradition, a day of fasting and abstinence. These actions are intended to focus one’s mind and soul on the Christian life and the preparation for Easter. Fasting is understood to mean one main meal during the day and abstinence is understood to mean foregoing rich food which habitually means no meat during the day. 

United Lenten Devotions – 2014: St. Cyprian’s will be taking part once again in the ecumenical observance of Lent with our neighboring faith communities. On Wednesday evenings beginning on March 12, 2014, a simple dinner will be shared by participants at 6:00 pm followed by a liturgy at 7:00 pm.
