On Pentecost, we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit to the disciples after Jesus’ ascension. We receive that gift through our baptism. In the Anglican communion Pentecost is often called “Whitsunday” or “White Sunday” since this feast was the occasion for people to be baptized and in earlier times, the newly baptized wore white.
