This coming Sunday is the third Sunday in the Advent season. Since the Middle Ages it has been called Gaudete Sunday. The Latin word Gaudete means ‘rejoice’. This is the Sunday when we contemplate the joy of Christ’s coming and our redemption. This Sunday we light the rose-colored candle as a symbol of that joy.
